About Matt Champoux | Human-Nature Photography

Matthew Champoux serves the conservation and development arena through photography, consulting, project management, supply chain analysis, and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. After obtaining his master's degree at Stanford University and completing research in the Tambopata area of the Peruvian Amazon in 2008, Matthew managed and trained auditors for FSC in Latin America and the U.S. with a large certification body. He has worked as a field ornithologist intermittently (master nest searcher, bander, and birder by ear) for over a decade. As a researcher in Peru, Matthew learned to recognize over 140 species of bird by call or song alone.

While working in certification, Matthew helped hundreds of companies to achieve FSC Chain of Custody certification. His clientele ranged from single-person operations to some of the largest multinational corporations in the world. Matthew is considered an expert in the implementation of these complex standards for all sectors of the forest products industry. He is interested in working with REDD+ (Reduction of Emissions for Deforestation, and Forest Degradation) projects and managing biodiversity assessments, particularly in the tropics. A natural born traveler, his easy going personality has made him friendships throughout the world. He is fluent in Spanish.

Matthew has also been a teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga since 2005.
