Many of the large forest spiders, like this species of Wolf Spider at La Selva Biological Station, rely on their strength to actively pursue and overpower their prey. Here the spider is digesting its meal of a Cicada species (locally called Chicharra). Take note of the small red mites on the Cicada. When we think of biodiversity it is important that we consider even the smallest of creatures participating in the interactions that support the binding weave and functioning of ecosystems.
